Connect a cloud account
Rockslab builds clusters in your own Hetzner Cloud project. Give it an API token for that project and it can start.
Why your account and not ours
The machines are yours: they sit in your Hetzner project, Hetzner bills you for them, and you can see every one of them in the Hetzner console. Rockslab builds and runs the clusters on top and reads what is there. It keeps no other write power over your cloud — on purpose.
Make a token in Hetzner
- 1
Open your project in the Hetzner Cloud Console
One project per cloud account is a good habit: a project's token sees only that project.
- 2
Security › API tokens › Generate API token
Choose Read & Write. A read-only token is fine for looking around, but a cluster cannot be built with it.
- 3
Copy the token
Hetzner shows it once. So will we, in spirit: after you save it, nobody — not you, not us in the cabinet — sees it again.
Add it to Rockslab
- 1
Infrastructure › + Account
Pick Hetzner Cloud, give the account a name you will recognise (
prod,staging,that-one-test), and paste the token. - 2
Save
The cabinet stores the token in the platform's vault and starts reading the project's inventory right away.
- 3
Wait for the first inventory
A successful read is the proof the token works. The account card shows its servers, networks and what the project costs.
What next
With an account connected, you can create your first cluster. If you want clusters named under your own domain, claim a domain too — it takes a minute and you will want it later anyway.
